  • Johannesburg - Three men were severely burnt when their shop was robbed and set alight at Mocoseng village in Mmabatho on Thursday, North West police said.

Superintendent Keaobaka Moses said it was believed the Bangladeshis had requested a man to fetch water for them on Wednesday. They did not agree on payment.

"Today (on Thursday) the man came. He robbed them and doused them with paraffin which they were selling in the shop and set them alight.

"He then ran away," Moses said.

The men stole an undisclosed amount of cash, cellphone vouchers and a cellphone.

The Bangladeshis were rescued by fire fighters who managed to extinguish the flames, and were taken to Mafikeng provincial hospital.

"Everything in the shop was gutted by fire and damage is estimated at R150 000," Moses said.

Investigations revealed that the man was armed with a firearm during the attack.

Police were investigating a case of arson and armed robbery.
