Johannesburg - A 19-year-old woman was arrested for possessing dagga valued at R6 900 at a roadblock between Dutywa and Mthata in the Eastern Cape, police said on Thursday.

The woman was arrested when police stopped and searched a taxi she was travelling in on Thursday afternoon, said spokesperson Ling'sile Magama.

"When all the passengers were told to get out with their luggage, the girl remained in the taxi with her plastic bag."

He said when police searched the bag they found dagga weighing 6.9kg.

"When asked about it, she confirmed she was transporting the dagga from Mthata to Willovale."

The woman was expected to appear in the Dutywa magistrate's court on Friday, Magama said.
