Cop shoots wife after party
23/12/2006 09:00 - (SA)
Johannesburg - A 30-year-old policeman shot dead his 24-year-old wife after a party in Secunda on Saturday morning, Mpumalanga police said.
The couple apparently left the party to go home at 02:00, but the policeman wanted to stay, said Superintendent Abie Khoabane.
After reaching their home, the policeman insisted on going back but his wife refused.
"He then got his service gun (an R4 rifle) and shot her in the neck and back."
She died on the scene.
The couple's four-year-old son was also present during the shooting, but he was not harmed.
Khoabane said a neighbour heard the gun shots and called police.
The policeman was arrested for murder and will appear in the Secunda magistrate's court on Wednesday.
Khoabane said the officer was trained as a sharp shooter and recently won a competition in Cape Town.
