Johannesburg - Metro police arrested three people on Thursday for a burglary at the municipal department of transport in Germiston.
Inspector Jimmy Maboko said a 33-year-old man, a 26-year-old woman and a 29-year-old woman were arrested at Makause informal settlement in Primrose, Germiston, after police tracked their footprints in the mud.
The department of transport has a storage facility for buses, municipal cars and car parts.
"They broke in between midnight and 06:00, but we were able to track them by their footprints from a hole made in the fence and the marks of the tyres they stole from the department," said Maboko.
Police recovered 16 bus tyres, four sedan tyres, a video machine, a television set and two computers at a shack in the settlement.
The three suspects are expected to appear before the Germiston magistrate's court for the possession of stolen property on Friday.
