  • Johannesburg - Five armed men posing as policemen robbed a family and kidnapped a 36-year-old man in Kibler Park on Thursday night, Johannesburg police said.

Clad in police uniforms, the men entered the house at 19:30 after a family member opened the door to investigate a noise outside, Captain Schalk Bornman said on Friday.

"They then robbed the family of money, cash, jewellery, cellphones and a firearm before making off in a white BMW car."

"The men took along a 36-year-old man from the same house and dumped him at a bakery in the south of the city."

No one was injured during the incident.

Police are investigating claims that the BMW car driven by the armed robbers was a marked police car with falsified registration numbers.

"We are still investigating the matter so I cannot say much at this stage," Bornman said.
