Durban - Top ranking police officers in KwaZulu-Natal visited the Kosi Bay area near the Mozambican border, the Mercury reported on Thursday.
The visit by the officials follows the recent spate of vehicle hijackings and robberies in the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park.
Details of the visit were not immediately available, but the report said the delegation was headed by the deputy provincial commissioner of operations Fani Masemola.
Earlier in the week the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for transport, community safety and liaison, Bheki Cele, said security bosses would meet their Mozambican counterparts in a bid to clamp down on cross-border smuggling.
Police spokesperson Superintendent Jay Naicker told the Mercury that "short term and long term plans were in the pipeline", but declined to elaborate.
On December 29 Jan Bouwer and his family were robbed of his Jeep Cherokee. The hijackers were reported to have held knives to the throats of his 10-year old twin daughters. The attack happened at the same place were German tourists were also hijacked.
