Pretoria - A Pretoria man shot dead his lover, then turned the gun on himself during an argument in Moreleta Park on Monday morning, police said.

Inspector Paul Ramaloko said the couple were travelling together in a car when the argument broke out, and they pulled over.

The body of the 40-year-old woman - a Tshwane metro police official - was found at the side of the road. The man's body was found in the car.

Ramaloko said it was believed the woman was running away from the man when she was shot.
