Acornhoek - A man has been arrested on charges of shooting dead his girlfriend at a shopping complex in Acornhoek, Mpumalanga, on Tuesday night.

Several bullets were pumped into Girly Khoza's chest and she died on the scene.

A 28-year-old man from Cottondale was arrested after the shooting and will appear in court on Friday.

Mopani police spokesperson, Superintendent Moatshe Ngoepe, said on Wednesday said the couple had an argument at the old shopping centre in Acornhoek about 18:00.

"It is not known what the argument was about, but the man pulled out a firearm and pumped several bullets into the woman," he said.

He said security guards overpowered the man and police were called.
