Robber dies in shootout Cops, robbers shootout kills 5

Johannesburg - A robbery suspect was shot dead and another was wounded in a shoot-out with police on the West Rand on Friday afternoon, said the ER24 emergency service.

Spokesperson Werner Vermaak said a contractor was held up while paying workers in the residential suburb of Princess Crossing in Roodepoort.

When police arrived, a shoot-out followed.

A robber was shot dead and another was taken to Leratong Hospital with chest wounds where he is in a stable but critical condition.

Two others fled on foot, said Vermaak.

Police recovered two firearms.

West Rand police spokesperson captain Joseph Magoai confirmed the incident. He added that an undisclosed amount of money had been recovered.
