Johannesburg - Police on the East Rand arrested 469 people over the weekend for offences ranging from robbery and assault to possession of drugs and stolen property, theft, drunken driving, fraud and shoplifting.

Superintendent Andy Pieke said 61 illegal immigrants were also arrested.

Pieke said most arrests were for liquor related offences and most took place in Katlehong, Nigel, Springs and Vosloorus.
