  • Pietermaritzburg - Eight dangerous prisoners are at large following an escape from the holding cells of Harburg police station, near New Hanover in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands on Saturday night.

    They had been arrested on charges including murder, armed robbery, housebreaking, robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms, said police spokesperson Joey Jeevan.

    Bars in the cells which held 23 inmates were cut through.

    The escaped prisoners were named as Bheki Mkhize, 27, Mlondolozi Malinga, 25, Mfanifuthi Ntuli, 27, Sphamandla Nkwanyana, 27, Khambulani Goba, 35, Sizwe Mzobe, 30, Bheki Chamane, 22, and Langelihle Hlongwa, 22.

    Anyone with information about them may contact the investigating officer inspector Sipho Gcabashe at his office on 033-506-1043 or on 082-459-9891, or contact their nearest police station.
