Crime Out Of Control 30/01/2007 00:29
Yes, crime is totally out of control! I am however a bit disturbed to think that maybe somebody made a quick million out of peoples
emotions running high at the moment. What was the cost of the SMS Marketel???? - joe |

Crime is out of Control 30/01/2007 00:38
Mr Richard Rice of Synovate I challenge you to run this poll again if you strongly feel this poll was not accurate I am sure you would definately receive an even more amazing result that one received today.Do it for the 100's of South African's that have lost their lives and let the public know.
Cheers - Kasy Aboo |

Crime out of control 30/01/2007 01:19
Maybe now the government will realise that they cannot pull the wool of our eyes and that we are ALL GATVOL! Time for them to wake up and do something already ? CO - Cheryl |

YES!!!! Of course it will raise many emotions, doesn't matter how the question is asked. The People voted and the People are right. - Ange |

The poll was a rhetorical question... 30/01/2007 07:36
Of course crime is out of control! Not a single morning goes by that my inbox does not have a News24 headline on farm murders, rape, torture or hijacking. Next the government will tell us these stories are fabrications?! Wake up, Mr Mbeki. - Andries |

What are they talking about the results not being valid? Show me one person older than 18 that does not have a cellphone in this country! - Herman |

400 000 sms against crime 30/01/2007 07:42
As this is a SMS numer that levies a charge where is the money going ?
Also it would ne noce to see if the President took the time to send an sms. - Pearl |

Crime is ridiculous! 30/01/2007 08:06
Is Mbeki blind AND deaf??? Does he read the news? Does he watch TV? Can he not really see what is going on in SA!??
Thousands of people are being killed, raped and attacked, while he sits on his throne and dares to tell normal South Africans like you and me that crime is not bad!!??
Wake up Mr President - no matter how much you would like to believe that your country is riddled with crime, it's the number one factor why everyone's leaving!! Do you want to leave a legacy of being ignorant? - Disappointed |

Crime 30/01/2007 08:07
Why is it that only when a celebrity is a victim that SA wants to take a stand? What about all the other celebrities in their own house? The best dad, the most wonderful mom, the most talented son and/or daughter, killed, slaughtered, mugged, attacked and raped on a daily base, but that is nothing compared to a celebrity???!!!! Crime is out of control. Face it!!! Only then can we do something about it. - yvt |

Invalid 30/01/2007 08:10
I heard Tim Modise on 702 on Monday morning and he denied that he or his show or the SABC had anything to do with the poll. Now he is announcing the results on his TV show. Who knows who to believe these days.
I do agree though that crime is killing our country and Thabo Mbeki must be look at SA through some extremely rose tinted glasses. - SF |

Crime - Challenge Richard Rice 30/01/2007 08:12
I challenge Richard Rice of Synovate South Africa to launch a poll which is acceptable to him and he will receive the same results if not more. Then he can have a 'VALID POLL' - Louiza Frohlich |

Crime out of control 30/01/2007 08:18
"The result will also not reflect the entire population because there are many people who don't have access to cellphones or TV,". I don't agree, because even the lowest income earner owns a sellphone. Wake up and smell reality - crime is way out of control! - HB |

Crime out of control 30/01/2007 08:24
To say that the result is not valid because emotions came into it is unbelievable.
It is because crime is being ignored and people are feeling helpless, that emotions have become a huge driving force in our society.
It would be prudent not to ignore this fact. Regardless of color or race, there are a multitude of people in this country who just cannot stomach this crime wave any longer. Something has to be done.

Where are the race card players now? 30/01/2007 08:34
To those who always play the race card. Where are you now? This poll is a general question to all South Aricans. Is this reaction going to polarise the nation? NO! All of us are now getting to a point where we cannot take it anymore. - LM |

Cry the beloved country 30/01/2007 08:46
In the USA 11000.00 people are murdered every year (one of the worst in the world) Canada average 670 murders (90% family or friends) South Africa 46 000 and that's if we are being given all the stats. Rape: 1 in 3 women in south africa, car accidents deaths one of the worst in the world. Wow if that's under control, then i guess HIV does not cause Aids and showers and beetroot do cure Aids. MORONS RUN THIS COUNTRY - Alfred Shelver |

Crime out of control 30/01/2007 08:51
My three-year-old nephew was driving with me in my car a week ago when I got pulled over by a traffic officer. As soon as he saw the officer's pistol he looked terrified and asked whether the man is going to kill us now. Please wake up Mr Mbeki, you are killing this wonderful country by ignoring a problem that a three-year-old can see. - Disappointed |

Crime out of control 30/01/2007 08:53
What do you mean is crime out of control. Crime is in control just look at the reception Yengeni got, our deputy vice president's actions and how about the travelgate MPs who are still in office! To mention a few. - Russell |

Crime 30/01/2007 08:55
I think the government wants the crime to stay like this. But one cannot help wondering when people are going to take the law into their own hands... I wonder what they will do if all the educated people leave the country because of all the crime - try hosting 2010 then? - Ice |

Crime out of control 30/01/2007 09:00
If a snap survey is not unacceptable, then perhaps they should ask "Who has been robbed, hijacked, raped, mugged and attacked in the last 12 months?" Sadly we cannot ask the nearly 20 000 that were murdered! - RS |

Tell us where the sms money went to - else we're victims of a scam 30/01/2007 09:05
I challenge the Beeld to find out on behalf of 400 000 of us, where over half a million rands worth of the sms generated money is going? I made a few calls but can't find out who the 33588 number belongs to. - NAW |

Racist Campaign 30/01/2007 09:10
Tim will simply say that the campaign was influenced by racists and, therefore, that it is statistically invalid...
BTW, does ANYONE really believe that an SMS campaign is going to make ANY difference. Wake up and smell the coffee people...Oops! Sorry. The coffee was stolen in an armed robbery... - Senor Neek |

Statistically 30/01/2007 09:21
Looking at it from a statistical point of view... You cannot say you've reached X amount of people and Y amount chose to respond. BUT 400000 smss tell a tale, that no statistitian can ignore.
So statistically the poll is not worth the airwaves it went through, but what interests me is how many people respond to these polls usually? 2 000? Maybe 4 000? The response is 100x bigger than that. With such a high number of people smssing you'll definately cross several racial divides.

It is emotional for any law-abiding citizen to see that their country is spiralling out of control where crime is concern. If it doesn't affect you emotionally then maybe you are not passionate enough to be a citizen of SA - FB (Midrand) - FB |
