Mthatha - A 35-year-old man is to appear in the Dutywa magistrate's court on Tuesday for allegedly raping his daughter, Eastern Cape police said.

The man was arrested on Monday following the rape of the eight-year-old girl at Taleni village over the weekend, said spokesperson captain Lintisile Magama.

The crime allegedly took place while the man was herding cattle.

"The mother discovered the child limping. After checking her she found she was raped.

"Police were called and the child was taken to a doctor, where rape was confirmed," Magama said.
