12/02/2007 14:00 - (SA)
Johannesburg - The body of an 84-year-old woman has been found in the boot of a stolen car driven by two teenagers in Mount West near Nottingham Road, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Monday.
Rita Burdette had been wrapped in linen and there was a plastic bag over her head, said inspector Joey Jeevan. There were no visible injures to her body.
Police stopped the Volkswagen Golf at 18:00 on Sunday after receiving complaints from the public, he said.
Police arrested the youths on finding they did not have driver's licences and confiscated the car.
However, it was only when the vehicle was later searched that Burdette's body was discovered.
She was a founder member of the Treverton Preparatory School in Mooi River, where she lived, and was last seen in church at 11:00 on Sunday, said Jeevan.
A post mortem would be conducted to determine the exact cause of her death.
