Nelspruit - A man who dragged a woman to his house and raped her for two days has been jailed for 22 years.
Vusi Shabangu, 43, of Block C in Nkomazi was sentenced in the Nelspruit circuit of the Pretoria High Court on Monday and was denied leave to appeal the sentence.
He has 14 previous convictions for rape, theft, housebreaking, assault and dagga possession.
His most recent victim was on her way to a visit a relative when Shabangu dragged her to his house at knifepoint.
He kept her prisoner for two days, on November 26 and 27, 2005. She was raped and hit with a chain. He threatened to kill her if she told anyone.
She escaped when he went out, and the police arrested him later that day.
Meanwhile, in Middelburg, a five-year-old girl was raped by a lodger on Saturday who claimed that he was playing with her.
Her mother had gone to a nearby shop and left her daughter in bed. She returned home to find the lodger lying on top of the child.
The mother reported him to the police and he appeared in the Middelburg magistrate's court on Monday.
The girl is receiving counselling.
