Mpumalanga - A 50-year-old truck driver was hijacked when a man posing as a traffic officer stopped him on the N12 highway in Sundra, said Mpumalanga police on Wednesday.
Superintendent Abie Khoabane said George Nkosi told police he stopped the truck on Monday night when a uniformed traffic cop with a torch signalled for him to pull over.
Khoabane said: "When he stopped, two armed men emerged, held him at gunpoint and forced him to get out of the truck.
"They tied him up and dumped him in a nearby field."
The two men drove away in the truck - valued at R1m - while the "traffic cop" drove behind in a white bakkie that had been parked on the side of the road.
No arrests have been made and police were searching for the truck and two trailers.
