ATM blown up in Newcastle
11/03/2007 12:34 - (SA)
Johannesburg - A Standard Bank automated teller machine was blown up at a Madadeni township petrol station in Newcastle on Saturday morning, KwaZulu-Natal police said.
Petrol attendants said they heard a "big bang" shortly after 02:00 and saw an ATM flying through the air shortly, said police spokesperson Captain Shooz Magudulela.
Magudulela said the attendants were about to run to a police station when they saw two armed men "picking up something" near the ATM's location.
It was not clear whether the men took any money from the ATM but police were investigating.
No arrests have been made.
