Johannesburg - Four men were arrested for allegedly stabbing to death a 60-year-old man at his Hermanus home, Western Cape police said on Thursday.

"It is alleged that these suspects entered the premises, stabbed him and tied up his 56-year-old wife with a rope," said Captain Elliot Sinyangana.

The couple were attacked in their Main Road home at about 21:00 on Wednesday.

The man was stabbed in the neck and chest.

The attackers, all in their early 20s, stole the woman's purse with cash, a cellphone, a camera and a bank card. They demanded the pin code for the bank card and fled in a hired Mercedes-Benz.

The car was later found abandoned at a dumping site near Zwelihle.

The suspects were arrested about an hour after the attack on murder and robbery charges.
