Johannesburg - Four people, one of them a baby girl, died when their car collided with a truck along the Vaal Dam road in Heidelberg, said police on Sunday.

Captain Tshilate Thivhulawi said the two cars collided near Koppiesfontein farm on Friday night.

"It is alleged that the car was travelling from Heidelberg to Sasolberg when it collided head-on with a truck," he said.

The four occupants - a male driver, two women and the baby - were found dead inside the car.

The truck driver was uninjured.

"The next of kin still have to be informed," said Thivhulawi.

Heidelberg police have opened a culpable homicide docket.
