Cape Town - An SPCA inspector who rescued a snake in Cape Town was confronted by an angry mob who wanted him to release the "evil" reptile so they could kill it, the Cape Times reported on Monday.
Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) inspector Benson Kotsie was called out on Saturday after the two-metre snake was found in a Wendy house in Guguletu.
He discovered that the snake was a harmless mole snake.
When he managed to catch it, he was confronted by a crowd outside which demanded to kill the snake, saying it was an evil "thing" and a sign of witchcraft, the newspaper reported.
Only when police arrived was he allowed to leave, with the snake, which he took to Rondevlei Nature Reserve.
