Beware of loo paper rip-offs
28/03/2007 17:53  - (SA)

  • Toilet paper ad 'misleading'
  • Inmates use Bible as loo paper
  • 'Forests flushed down toilet'
  • Pretoria - Toilets come in all shapes and sizes, but not many people know that the law states that every roll of one-ply tissue must have 500 sheets.

To stop the trade of illegal toilet paper, the SA Tissue Manufacturer Association (Satma) has launched a red-and-white logo that will appear on packaging to let consumers know that the toilet paper they are buying is legitimate.

The launch took place in Pretoria on Wednesday.

Satma executive director John Hunt said many people were being ripped off by "unscrupulous manufacturers" who made profits by producing toilet rolls that did not comply with the legal standards.

The law requires that each roll of toilet paper be 110m long and 100mm wide and must have at least 500 sheets.
