Durban - A 15-year-old boy was shot in the leg during an armed robbery at his house in Pinetown on Friday morning, said KwaZulu-Natal police.

Inspector Michael Read said Parvarthy Govender and her 15-year-old son were waiting in the family car in the driveway of their Pinetown home when they were confronted by four armed men.

The four men demanded the car and one of them fired a shot wounding the boy in the leg.

The men then fled in the car and the boy was taken to hospital.

Read said the boy was reported to be in a stable condition and police had opened a case of attempted murder and armed robbery.

No arrests had been made and the car - described as being a "gold" Toyota - had not been recovered.
