Pensioner shot in Pretoria
03/04/2007 12:54 - (SA)
Johannesburg - A man was shot dead near the gate of his home in an attempted hijacking at Booysens in Pretoria West on Tuesday morning, paramedics said.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Mark Stokoe said the man, a pensioner who runs a shuttle service between Pretoria and Johannesburg, had just opened his gate and was walking back to start his minibus when he was attacked.
"The victim was shot in the chest and died at the scene. When the shot rang his wife went mad and it was enough noise to cause the attackers to panic and run away, leaving the car behind," Stokoe said.
The man was a relative of one of their colleagues at Netcare 911.
"This is the second family member of a Netcare 911 staff member to be shot and killed in the last three weeks, and the third to be killed in the last three months in the Pretoria area," said Stokoe.
