Johannesburg - Five security guards were injured when their cash van rolled on the N1 highway in Midrand on Wednesday, emergency services said.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Mark Stokoe said it was still unclear what had caused the accident.

"No foul play is suspected. The rolling of the van was purely accidental," said Stokoe.

Another guard van was immediately called in to remove the cash from crashed vehicle.

The accident caused a complete closure of the highway.

The five guards were transported to Sunninghill hospital in Sandton, said Stokoe.
