Johannesburg - An 18-year-old boy was stabbed to death, allegedly by his close friend, at Gaxa village in Centane, Eastern Cape police said on Friday.

Police spokesperson Jackson Manatha said that Lungani Ntakakana had been involved in a fight with his friend, also aged 18, who had refused to accompany him to a nearby shop.

"The boy claims that Ntakakana had assaulted him first which led him to draw his knife and stab him three times," said Manatha.

The friend was arrested and would appear on a murder charge in the Centane magistrate's court on Tuesday.
