Johannesburg - Eight people were being treated in hospital on Sunday for minor injuries after they were struck by lighting in Bruma, said Johannesburg emergency services.

Spokesman Malcolm Midgley said that the bolt of lightning hit the eight shortly before 14:00.

"They had been playing in the veld when lightning struck," he said.

They were all taken to Johannesburg Hospital.
