Rustenburg - Two men arrested for theft and fraud after claiming they were hijack victims are due to appear in Rustenburg magistrate's court on Tuesday.
Elias Mapodile, 36, and Angelo Xeso claimed four men travelling in a red Toyota Corolla without registration numbers robbed them of R180 000 they were supposed to bank.
They claimed the four men got into their car and drove with them until they dropped them in Majakaneng outside Brits.
After the claim, police interviewed Mapodile and came to the conclusion that he had made up the hijack and robbery story. He was subsequently arrested.
His co-worker, Angelo Xeso, was also arrested and charged with theft and fraud.
Lost their jobs
Police recovered R112 000 in a private house and a car which Mapodile allegedly had been driving in the bush near Marikana.
The two appeared in Rustenburg magistrate's courts on April 10 and their case was postponed to April 24 for formal bail application.
The two were employed at Marikana Spar and have since lost their jobs.
