'Explain crime to SA'

Cape Town - Instead of engaging foreigners, Safety and Security Minister Charles Nqakula should explain crime to South Africans, the Freedom Front Plus said on Monday.
"Mr Charles Nqakula should rather explain crime in South Africa here at home, than explaining it in foreign countries," said party spokesperson on safety and security Pieter Groenewald.
A weekend newspaper reported that Nqakula travelled to Britain last week to reassure foreign investors that SA was serious about fighting crime, as part of an aggressive campaign by the government to change the world's perception of crime in SA.
"The public of South Africa will be better positioned to judge whether the minister is doing what he is saying because we are the ones who are experiencing the crime and not foreigners," he said in a statement.
"It is easy for Minister Nqakula to throw dust in the eyes of foreigners because they do not know the true extent of crime in South Africa," Groenewald said.
He rejected any views suggesting that crime was going down, saying South Africans were yet to feel the reduction in crime.
"The minister's own statistics indicate that there has been an increase in hijackings, robberies and rapes."
