Johannesburg - A suspected car thief killed a woman after fleeing from police at a roadblock in Soweto on Tuesday afternoon, Johannesburg metro police said.
"He failed to stop at a roadblock in Naledi around 12:30 and police and metro police chased him," Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said.
The fugitive skipped a stop sign in Zola and crashed into an Opel Corsa van, killing a woman passenger and injuring the male driver and another woman.
The man, in his 30s, was arrested at the scene. The red Ford Laser he was driving had been reported stolen in the Sandton area.
He is expected to appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court soon on charges of culpable homicide and being in possession of a stolen car.
