Benoni woman shot dead

Johannesburg - A 44-year-old woman was killed on the streets of Benoni, east of Johannesburg, on Thursday night in what appeared to be an attempted robbery.
Police spokesperson Inspector Juanita Killian said the woman and three of her colleagues walked from their workplace to a taxi rank nearby on Thursday night and were approached by two men.
"One of the men was armed and shot the lady three times, in the head, chest and right arm," she said.
Police suspect that the men attempted to rob the women but the two other women involved "were too traumatised to speak".
After witnessing the incident, people passing by began screaming, causing the two men to flee empty-handed.
Paramedics attempted to revive the woman but were not successful. Her husband was on the scene, Killian said.
Police are investigating a case of murder and attempted robbery.
