Johannesburg - Security guards opened fire on a three-man gang of robbers who attacked them in the parking lot of Golden Walk shopping centre in Germiston on Friday, said police.

No-one was wounded and the robbers got away with a money box, said inspector Juanita Kilian.

She said the gang struck at 08:30, just after the guards had made a pick-up and were about to put the money box into the cash-in-transit van.

They made their getaway in a brown Ford Courier bakkie.
