Johannesburg - Two Western Cape metro police officers were shot dead in Delft on Friday morning, said police.

Constable Siphokazi Mawisa said they were getting out of their car at 06:30 when two men walked up to them.

The men opened fire, fatally wounding a 33-year-old metro police officer in the left side and stomach, and his 30-year-old colleague in the face and stomach, before fleeing.

Mawisa asked anyone with information about the incident to contact the Delft police station on 021 954 9000 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
