Durban - A 13-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly raping a seven-year-old girl in the toilets of a school near Gingindlovu on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast, police said on Friday.

Superintendent Jay Naicker said the mother of the girl arrived home after work on Tuesday evening to find her daughter in bed with fever and vomiting continuously.

When the woman undressed her daughter she saw that the child had been violated.

She questioned the girl who revealed that a 13-year-old boy at her school in the Ncinyane Reserve called her to the toilets when the other children had left.

There he allegedly raped her.

The mother reported the matter to police at Gingindlovu who then arrested the boy and the girl was taken to Eshowe Provincial Hospital for counselling and treatment.

The boy was expected to appear in the Mtunzini Magistrate's Court soon.
