Truck crashes into cars, houses

Johannesburg - Three people were injured when a Mercedes-Benz truck collided with a VW Golf, a Fiat Palio, a tree and two private house wall fences in Leondale, Alberton, Ekurhuleni metro said on Saturday.
Inspector Kobeli Mokheseng said eyewitnesses alleged that the truck had been travelling at high speeds on Firethorn street around 21:27 when it lost control.
The truck then crashed into the stationary Golf which was unoccupied and the Uno which was parked on the pavement.
There were two people inside the Uno at the time.
When the 38-year-old driver tried to drive away, he crashed into two house wall fences a hundred metres from where the first collision occurred.
The driver of the truck - who appeared to be alone in the vehicle -sustained serious injuries.
"Two occupants from the Fiat Palio, a male and a female between the ages of 21 and 22, sustained slight injuries," said Mokheseng.
All patients were taken to Natalspruit hospital for medical treatment.
Traffic was affected from 21:37 until after midnight.
He said the cause of the accident would be investigated and a case of reckless and negligent driving was opened at the Alberton police station.
