Cape Town - Two Transcash security guards were robbed of an undisclosed amount of money in a heist at a garage in Observatory, Cape Town, on Monday, said Western Cape police.

Constable Siphokazi Mawisa said the guards had been busy with a cash drop-off at a Shell garage on Main Road when five armed men pulled up in a VW Playa and robbed them of one cash box.

"They then fled in the car," said Mawisa.

A Transcash Security car which was in the area gave chase and rammed the Playa.

"Shots were fired between the five men and security officials but nobody was injured," said Mawisa.

The five robbers fled on foot before getting away in another car which was waiting nearby.
