Johannesburg - An accused in the Boeremag treason trial, Herman Scheepers, has died, his lawyer, Paul Kruger, said on Wednesday.

"Herman passed away this morning (Wednesday)," Kruger said.

He declined to elaborate, saying the family did not want any publicity on the matter.

Scheepers was released on bail last year because of ill-health.

He has in the past few months been absent from proceedings in the Pretoria High Court where he and 21 other alleged Boeremag members are facing treason and murder charges.
