Pretoria - Pretoria residents were urged on Wednesday to use power sparingly as the current cold spell and accompanying surge in electricity use led to several power outages in the city.

The City of Tshwane Municipality said in a statement on Wednesday it was experiencing "very high electricity consumption" which had led to power interruptions.

"Overloading of circuits may result in switching off of supplies to safeguard equipment. Restoring such conditions may take some time due to the prevailing circumstances," the municipality warned.
