Prisoners injured in taxi crash

Johannesburg - Twenty-three awaiting-trial prisoners, a police officer and a taxi driver were injured in a road accident in Boksburg on Tuesday, police said.
Captain Mack Mngomezulu said a truck transporting 53 prisoners from Boksburg Prison to Alberton Magistrate's Court collided with a taxi and overturned on the corner of Rondebult Road and Kingfisher Avenue.
The cause of the accident was not yet known as both drivers were taken to hospital in a serious condition, Mngomezulu said.
The injured prisoners were also taken to hospital, one of them in a serious condition.
He said the taxi driver was alone at the time of the accident.
A case of reckless or negligent driving was being investigated.
