Paedophile 'had many names'

Johannesburg - The true identity of the man who has confessed to the 2005 killing of a six-year-old boy in Plettenberg Bay is a mystery, The Herald Online reported on Wednesday.
It said investigating officer John Nomdoe told the Circuit Court in George on Tuesday that the accused, Theunis Olivier, called himself Raymond Sinclair when he was arrested.
Olivier had also admitted to using other pseudonyms while working in Ladysmith in KwaZulu-Natal, where he is wanted in connection with five charges of molesting young boys.
He is charged with the kidnapping, indecent assault and murder of Steven Siebert. The boy's body was found on Christmas Eve in dense bushes in the grounds of 30 Cordovan Street, Plettenberg Bay.
The family, from Johannesburg, had been on holiday at the time.
Olivier confessed to the crime in a letter that was read to the court on Monday.
The letter, written shortly after his arrest, was handed in as evidence on the first day of the trial on Monday and read aloud, despite Olivier's objections.
Nomdoe testified on Tuesday that Olivier claimed to have no birth certificate or ID documents proving his identity.
He (Nomdoe) had asked Interpol to help find some kind of document that would confirm Olivier's identity, with no success.
"At no time before or after he was arrested and charged did the accused say he was in fact not Raymond Sinclair," Nomdoe said.
"On December 26, Olivier asked to see me and said his real name was Theunis Christian Olivier and he had other names including the name Brian Shannon, which he used in KwaZulu-Natal."
Olivier told Nomdoe he was born on November 25 1938, but had no documents to prove his identity.
The trial continued on Wednesday.
