  • Johannesburg - The trial of six people accused of murdering Avhatakali Netshisaulu, son of City Press editor Mthatha Tsedu, will be heard in the Johannesburg High Court early next year.

This was announced when they appeared in the Krugersdorp Regional Court on Wednesday.

Netshisaulu's wife, Mulalo Sivhidzo, and co-accused Ntambudzeni Mutsenene, 29, Sello Johannes Arnold, 28, Rodney Makhura, 32, Setshaba Fokane, 36, and Mashudu Mutobvu, 30, will stand trial from January 28 to March 2008.

They face charges of murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, kidnapping, and malicious damage to property.

During their brief appearance in the Krugerdorp Regional Court on Wednesday, Fokane's lawyer withdrew, claiming lack of payment as his reason, a court official said.

Netshisaulu was apparently hijacked while driving from his North Riding home north of Johannesburg to see a business partner in Honeydew around 08:00 on December 7, 2006.

His body was found in the boot of his burnt-out car in Muldersdrift on the same night.

According to the indictment, the robbery charge related to the theft of Netshisaulu's wallet containing his bank card, cash and driver's license, as well as a cellular phone.

During their brief appearance in the Krugersdorp Regional Court on Wednesday, Fokane's lawyer withdrew, saying his clients had not paid him, a court official said.
