Pretoria - A police constable and four others have been arrested in Pretoria in connection with a cash heist this week, Gauteng police said on Wednesday.
Sergeant Sanku Tsunke said four men were nabbed early on Wednesday morning at a flat in Pretoria where they were found with an undisclosed amount of money.
The 28-year-old police officer was arrested on Monday.
The five were allegedly involved in a heist north-west of Pretoria on Monday, in which a 46-year-old motorist was shot and critically wounded.
An off-duty police inspector and his wife were also injured after their car collided with the suspects' vehicle during the heist in the vicinity of Medunsa.
Pretoria police spokesperson Captain Lucas Sithole said at the time that the gang in a blue Mercedes-Benz attacked a Red Eagles cash-in-transit van at a traffic light on the Medunsa road at 11:45 on Monday.
They opened fire on the van, took an undisclosed amount of cash and drove away, but abandoned their car when it crashed into a BMW.
The men - aged between 28 and 43 - would face armed robbery charges in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
