Still fighting
Desmond Tutu is showing no signs of slowing down as he turns 77, and is still an advocate for justice.

  • Johannesburg - A bullet narrowly missed a father and his son after a shot was fired at them outside the boy's school in Malvern, Johannesburg, where striking has been taking place, police said on Wednesday.

Police believe a striking teacher was responsible, but could not identify the culprit.

The man, who had just collected his son from the Malvern Primary School was seated in the car on Tuesday preparing to drive home when a shot went through the driver's window, narrowly missing the boy, said police spokesperson Cheryl Engelbrecht.

Speaking to Sapa on Wednesday, the man, who preferred not to be identified said: "My window broke, but luckily our seats were pulled back and the bullet went through the passenger's window without hitting anyone."

Although the man and his 11-year-old son were not harmed, their car was damaged.

"At this stage it is unknown who the striking teacher is," she said.

The boy's mother said her son had been traumatised by the incident.
