Two held in Jhb for abduction
11/06/2007 17:02  - (SA)

  • Boys 'abducted' in Heidelberg
  • 'I shamelessly abused him'
  • Johannesburg - Two burglars who abducted a man on Monday were arrested and are due to appear in court in Johannesburg soon, police said.

Superintendent Thembi Nkhwashu said: "Two men, hijackers and robbers aged 28 and 27, have been arrested in Johannesburg and several stolen goods have been retrieved."

The slightly injured abductee was freed.

The two robbed the inhabitants of a house in Kempton Park on Monday.

A man, 45, his wife, 43, and two children, aged 14 and 10, were inside the house.

"They took most of the electrical appliances, cellphones, jewellery, money, and the vehicle. The owner was also kidnapped," said Nkhwashu.

The matter was reported to the police, and within minutes the police arrived.

    Victim 'hit in the face'

The two men were arrested at the corner of Rissik and Von Brandis Street in Johannesburg.

One of the men had taken the victim's wedding band and was wearing it.

The police recovered the vehicle and stolen goods after the arrest.

"It seems the victim was assaulted, nothing severe, but it looks like they hit him in the face with the back of a firearm," said Nkhwashu.

"The family has been informed that the man is alive and well, and everything is under control now," she said.

"One of them has been linked to housebreakings and robberies around the area, but we are still busy with the linking," said Nkhwashu.

The two are due to appear in Johannesburg Magistrate's Court when all charges had been compiled.
