Cape Town - Police hope to arrest someone soon following the shooting of Abduraghman Sydow, 48, a stalwart of the Mitchell's Plain neighbourhood watch.
Police spokesperson Randall Stoffels told News24: "We're following up positive leads and we're confident we'll have an arrest soon.:
Sydow was shot and killed at about 20:10 on Sunday.
He was shot by two gunmen as he was leaving a house in Leander Street near Mitchell's Plain.
Stoffels said: "The two suspects fired several shots at him.
"He sustained two bullet wounds to his stomach and one to his chest and died on the scene."
The chairperson of the Mitchell's Plain neighbourhood watch, Abraham Isaacs, told News24 that the police had been very prompt in following up information provided by the community, which he believed would lead to the arrest of the murderers.
"We are very confident in the police and have established a relationship with them over the years."
Neither the police nor Isaacs would confirm whether the murder was related to Sydow's crime prevention activities in the neighbourhood.
Nothing was however stolen at the crime scene and no one was shot at apart from Sydow.
Isaacs told News24 that Sydow was a long-serving member on the Mitchell's Plain neighbourhood watch and had been diligent in fighting crime.
