Johannesburg - A number of police stations in the Vanderbijlpark area embarked on a crime prevention operation involving helicopter patrols on Tuesday, police said.
Captain William Velaphi Mcera said: "The operation is aimed at combating motor-vehicle-related crimes such as hijacking, theft and possession of stolen vehicles."
The police stations are at Vanderbijlpark, Sharpeville, Boipatong and Barrage.
Only one helicopter was in operation from 08:00 to 14:00 on Tuesday.
Motor vehicle crime would receive the most focus, but all crime will be checked, Mcera said.
The operation was set last the day, after which "the parties involved will look at their books and check where else they can go in the Vaal Triangle," he said.
Fifty-eight officers from the named police stations and other specialised units were part of the operation.
