Johannesburg - Police spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini says three men have been arrested following two robberies on the East- and North Rand.
Dlamini said: "A quick response by the members of the East and North Rand police emergency services resulted in the arrest of three suspects who were involved in house robberies in Kempton Park and Boksburg."
An elderly woman was badly assaulted by four men in her house in Bonaero in Kempton Park and was later taken to hospital for treatment.
Dlamini said: "On arriving at the scene, a shootout between the police and the suspects ensued. The suspects jumped over the neighbour's wall and fled," said Dlamini.
One of the robbers was shot in the legs and thighs and another was arrested. The other two suspects fled and police were still looking for them.
The robber who was shot was under police guard at the Thembisa Hospital.
And in another robbery, three men tied up a domestic worker and a five-year-old boy and ransacked the house in Parkrand, Boksburg.
"They took a plasma television, R2 000 worth of alcohol, an amplifier and speakers."
They got away in a maroon Mercedes-Benz. An off-duty policeman was assisted by East Rand police when he spotted the vehicle.
Dlamini said: "They stopped the car in Klipriver and arrested two suspects. The third man is still on the run."
A vehicle and all the stolen goods were recovered. A 9mm pistol allegedly stolen in Roodepoort last year was also recovered.
