Johannesburg - A gang of 10 people, two of them armed, hijacked a bus with 15 passengers on board in Soweto at the weekend.

The driver, who was thrown out of the vehicle, flagged down a metro police patrol in Old Potchefstroom Road early on Saturday afternoon, said Johannesburg metro police spokespersonWayne Minnaar.

Later the bus was found abandoned in Chiawelo, Soweto, with the passengers unharmed.

Police are looking for the gang, which fled on foot.
