Cape Town - The drawn-out wrangle on the possible prosecution of former minister Adriaan Vlok and General Johan van der Merwe could draw closer to a conclusion this week if a date can be agreed for a court hearing.
Vlok was the minister of law and order and Van der Merwe was the commissioner of police in the former government.
The charges against them stem from efforts to poison former church activist the Rev Frank Chikane, who is Director-General of the Presidency.
Rapport reported at the weekend that three former policemen could be charged with Vlok and Van der Merwe.
Chikane already has indicated he is more interested in revealing the true facts than in prosecution, but the final decision lies with the National Prosecuting Authority.
