Newcastle - Two Fidelity security guards were injured in an attempted cash-in-transit heist on the N11 between Ladysmith and Newcastle on Monday morning, paramedics said.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said a security van was forced off the road and crashed near the Danhauser off-ramp.
Two guards, both in their late 20s, were injured. One was in a critical condition and the other suffered serious injuries. They were taken to Newcastle private hospital.
It was not known if any shots were fired during the incident, but the guards did not have any bullet wounds.
The N11 was closed. Botha could not give further details.
