Pietermaritzburg - Two policemen were arrested after money was stolen from a home in Wartburg on Wednesday.
Inspector Joey Jeevan said the policemen and four others allegedly robbed the homestead in Swayimane.
She said that during the robbery, shots were fired and three occupants were injured.
"A large undisclosed amount of cash was also taken."
Jeevan said the suspects fled in a black Volkswagen Golf.
"The incident was reported to the police and the getaway vehicle was immediately circulated via emergency services."
Police spotted the vehicle and pulled it off along the Table Mountain-Wartburg road.
Police arrested the suspects, aged between 22 and 27 years.
Jeevan said: "We recovered four firearms, two Z88 9mm pistols and two 9mm pistols."
The two Z88s were service pistols, which led to the discovery that two of the suspects were policemen.
It was also established that the getaway vehicle was reported hijacked in central Pietermaritzburg last week.
"We are still establishing which precinct the policemen are from, and what rank they are."
The three injured occupants were treated at the house and were in a stable condition.
The suspects are due to appear in Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court shortly.
